Beef Dirty Rice (Print)

One-pot Cajun classic combining seasoned ground beef, trinity vegetables, and rice for a hearty, flavor-packed southern dish.

# Ingredients:

→ Base Ingredients

01 - 1 pound ground beef
02 - 1.5 cups long grain white rice, uncooked
03 - 3 cups chicken broth

→ Vegetables

04 - 1 green or red bell pepper, diced
05 - 2 celery stalks, diced
06 - 1 small onion, finely diced
07 - 2 garlic cloves, minced
08 - Chopped green onions for garnish (optional)

→ Seasonings

09 - 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
10 - 1 teaspoon dried thyme
11 - 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
12 - 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
13 - 1 tablespoon olive oil

# Directions:

01 - Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add ground beef, breaking it apart while cooking until completely browned, approximately 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
02 - Add diced onion, bell pepper, and celery to the beef. Cook for 3-5 minutes until vegetables have softened. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
03 - Stir uncooked rice into the meat and vegetable mixture, ensuring it's well coated. Toast the rice for 1-2 minutes.
04 - Add smoked paprika, thyme, Cajun seasoning, and black pepper, stirring to combine. Pour in chicken broth and bring mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
05 - Reduce heat to low, cover skillet with lid, and simmer for 18-20 minutes without removing the lid during cooking.
06 - Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5 minutes. Fluff rice gently with a fork, garnish with chopped green onions if desired, and serve hot.

# Notes:

01 - For authentic flavor, use a cast iron skillet if available.
02 - Adjust Cajun seasoning according to your spice preference.
