Patty Melt Recipe (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 pound ground beef.
02 - 1/2 teaspoon onion powder.
03 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.
04 - Salt and pepper to taste.
05 - 6 slices rye bread.
06 - 6 slices provolone cheese.
07 - 6 slices cheddar cheese.
08 - 6 tablespoons unsalted butter.
09 - 1/4 cup mayonnaise.
10 - 2 tablespoons chopped bacon.
11 - 3 tablespoons ketchup.
12 - 1 teaspoon sugar.
13 - 1 teaspoon relish.

# Instructions:

01 - Shape ground beef into three equal sized patties that match the size of your bread slices, pressing gently to form.
02 - Season both sides of each patty thoroughly with onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
03 - Heat large heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat until very hot, about 3-4 minutes.
04 - Cook patties 4-5 minutes per side for medium, adjusting time for desired doneness. Remove to plate.
05 - Combine all sauce ingredients in small bowl, mixing well to incorporate. Set aside.
06 - Wipe out skillet and reduce heat to medium. Butter one side of each bread slice.
07 - Place three bread slices in skillet butter-side down. Top each with two slices provolone. Add cooked patty on top of cheese layer, then top each with two slices cheddar.
08 - Spread special sauce on unbuttered sides of remaining bread. Place on sandwiches sauce-side down.
09 - Grill 3-4 minutes until golden brown. Carefully flip and grill other side 2-3 minutes until cheese melts.
10 - Cut sandwiches diagonally and serve hot while cheese is melted.
