Creme Brulee French Toast (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 loaf French bread, sliced 1-inch thick.
02 - 5 large eggs.
03 - 1 cup half-and-half.
04 - 1 cup whole milk.
05 - 1 tsp vanilla extract.
06 - 2/3 cup granulated sugar (plus extra for topping).
07 - 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon.
08 - 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg.
09 - 1/4 cup unsalted butter.
10 - Maple syrup for serving.

# Instructions:

01 - Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish and lay bread slices in one layer.
02 - Mix eggs, half-and-half, milk, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl until smooth.
03 - Pour mixture over the bread, making sure each slice gets well-soaked.
04 - Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit in the fridge overnight.
05 - Next morning, heat oven to 350°F.
06 - Take off plastic wrap and put small pieces of butter on the bread. Sprinkle some sugar over the top.
07 - Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and puffy.
08 - Let it cool a bit, then sprinkle more sugar on top. Broil quickly to make the sugar crispy and brown.

# Notes:

01 - Use stale bread for better texture.
02 - Press bread into custard while assembling.
03 - Add orange zest or almond extract for extra flavor.
04 - Watch closely while broiling to avoid burning.
05 - Keeps in fridge for 3 days.
06 - Reheat at 325°F for 10-15 minutes.
