Place 4 slices of thick slab bacon in a frying pan and fry until cooked. Remove the bacon from the pan and drain on paper towels to cool. Cut the cooled bacon into one-inch pieces.

Stand each corn cob upright on a plate and carefully remove the kernels using a sharp knife or a corn removal tool. Collect any corn milk from slicing and add it to a medium-sized saucepan along with the kernels.

Add the chopped bacon, butter, and freshly cut corn (including any corn milk) to the saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the corn is heated through. Season with black pepper to taste and serve immediately.
