Gingerbread Cookies Royal Icing (Print)

# Ingredients:

→ For the cookies

01 - 3 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1 tablespoon ground ginger
03 - 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
04 - ½ teaspoon ground cloves
05 - ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
06 - 1 teaspoon baking soda
07 - ½ teaspoon salt
08 - ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
09 - ¾ cup brown sugar
10 - 1 large egg
11 - ½ cup molasses
12 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ For the royal icing

13 - 2 cups powdered sugar
14 - 1 large egg white or 2 tablespoons meringue powder
15 - 2 tablespoons water
16 - ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
17 - 1-2 tablespoons water as needed

# Directions:

01 - In a bowl, whisk together flour, spices, baking soda, and salt.
02 - In a separate bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
03 - Mix in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract.
04 - Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
05 - Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
06 - Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Roll out the dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into circles or holiday shapes and place on a baking sheet.
07 - Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are set. Let cool completely.
08 - Beat powdered sugar, egg white, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add water as needed for piping consistency.
