Southern Pea Salad Classic (Print)

A creamy Southern classic combining sweet peas, bacon, eggs, and cheese in a tangy mayo-sour cream dressing.

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 16-ounce package frozen sweet peas, thawed (or canned peas, drained)
02 - 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
03 - 4-6 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled (or 1 cup cooked ham, chopped)
04 - 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
05 - 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

→ Seasonings

06 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
07 - 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
08 - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
09 - 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds (or 1/2 cup fresh celery, chopped)
10 - Pinch of cayenne pepper

→ Dressing

11 - 1/2 cup mayonnaise
12 - 1/2 cup sour cream

# Directions:

01 - In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed sweet peas, chopped hard-boiled eggs, crumbled bacon or chopped ham, chopped green onions, and shredded cheddar cheese.
02 - Sprinkle in the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, celery seeds (or chopped celery), and cayenne pepper. Mix thoroughly to distribute seasonings evenly.
03 - In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise and sour cream until smooth. Pour over the pea mixture and fold gently until all ingredients are evenly coated.
04 - Cover the salad and refrigerate for at least one hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.
