# Ingredients:

01 - 1 large egg
02 - 1 tablespoon water
03 - 8 oz almond paste
04 - ¼ cup granulated sugar
05 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
06 - 1 sheet puff pastry
07 - ¼ cup sliced almonds

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat.
02 - In a small bowl, whisk together egg and water. Set aside.
03 - In a food processor or stand mixer, combine almond paste, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
04 - Unfold pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet. Gently roll it with a rolling pin to make it slightly thinner and larger.
05 - Cut slits 1 inch apart along the two long sides of the pastry, leaving 1/2 inch from the center for the filling. Arrange the almond paste mixture down the center of the pastry.
06 - Starting at one end, fold the pastry strips over the almond mixture on a diagonal, alternating sides. Brush the pastry lightly with the egg wash and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
07 - Bake for 10 minutes, then lower the heat to 375°F and continue baking for 17 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool on the pan for 10 minutes, then slice and serve.

01 - Thaw puff pastry in the fridge overnight for best results. Alternatively, let it sit at room temperature until pliable.
02 - Do not skimp on the almond paste; it is essential for the flavor.
03 - For an added treat, spread Nutella over the almond filling before braiding.
