Texas Hash Skillet (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 pound ground beef
02 - 1 medium onion, diced
03 - 1 green pepper, diced (about ¾ cup)
04 - 2 cups canned tomatoes with juice (16 ounces)
05 - ½ cup uncooked long grain rice
06 - 1 teaspoon chili powder
07 - 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
08 - 1 teaspoon minced garlic
09 - 1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
10 - ½ teaspoon pepper
11 - 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - In a large 12" cast iron skillet (or other skillet) over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion and pepper together until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables start to soften. Drain off any fat.
02 - Add the tomatoes, uncooked rice, chili powder, worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt and pepper. Stir well.
03 - Cover the cast iron skillet (or other oven proof skillet or baking pan) with an oven-safe lid or with aluminum foil.
04 - Preheat the oven to 375ºF. Bake covered for 35-45 minutes or until the rice is tender.
05 - Use a fork to fluff the rice. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese, if desired. Serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
