Valentine's Day Sparkle Sweetheart Cookies (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Cookie Dough

01 - 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
02 - 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
03 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
04 - 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
05 - 2 ounces (57g) full-fat cream cheese, room temperature
06 - 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
07 - 1 large egg, room temperature
08 - 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
09 - 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

→ Decoration

10 - 3/4 cup (150g) pink and red sanding sugar
11 - 32 chocolate hearts, unwrapped

# Instructions:

01 - Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
02 - Beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add sugar until creamy. Beat in egg and extracts. Mix in dry ingredients until combined.
03 - Cover dough and chill 30-60 minutes. If chilling longer, let sit at room temperature 30 minutes before rolling.
04 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment. Place sanding sugar in bowl.
05 - Roll 1-tablespoon dough balls in sanding sugar. Place on sheets and flatten slightly. Bake 12-13 minutes.
06 - Press chocolate heart into each warm cookie. Chill briefly to set chocolate. Cool completely.

01 - Dough needs minimum 30 minute chill
02 - Can be made ahead and frozen
03 - Almond extract optional but recommended
04 - Keeps fresh 1 week at room temperature
