Braided Apple Pie (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Filling

01 - 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
02 - 2½ pounds apples, peeled, cored and sliced (~4-5 large apples)
03 - ½ cup granulated sugar
04 - ¼ cup brown sugar
05 - 1 tsp ground cinnamon
06 - ½ tsp ground allspice
07 - ¼ tsp ground ginger
08 - ¼ tsp salt
09 - 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
10 - 2 Tbsp cornstarch
11 - 1 Tbsp lemon juice

→ Dough and Topping

12 - 1 14.1-oz. box refrigerated pie crusts (2 sheets)
13 - 1 large egg beaten with 1 Tbsp water
14 - 2 Tbsp coarse sugar (sanding or turbinado)
15 - Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

# Instructions:

01 - Cook butter, apples, sugars, and spices in a large skillet until apples soften. Add flour and cornstarch mixture, cook until thickened. Stir in lemon juice and cool completely.
02 - Roll stacked pie crusts into 11"x18" rectangle. Spread cooled filling evenly.
03 - Roll dough into tight log, cut lengthwise, and twist pieces around each other with cut sides up.
04 - Brush with egg wash, sprinkle with coarse sugar, and bake at 375°F for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.

01 - Best apples to use: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Jonagold, or Braeburn
02 - Combination of apple varieties gives best flavor
